How Crafting is Saving Lives at JPRC
Healing isn’t just about the words we say—it’s about the tangible, daily ways we show up to protect one another.
Earlier this month, members and staff at the Jamaica Plain Recovery Center (JPRC) gathered for a workshop that bridged creative expression and life-saving care: Craft to Commemorate Lost Loved Ones. The session offered a compassionate space for community members to process grief, honor those lost to the overdose crisis, and channel that memory into direct, proactive harm reduction.
Together, participants sewed custom, handmade fabric patches designed specifically to hold life-saving naloxone (Narcan). By merging artistic outlet with active community health, each stitch became both a personal tribute to loved ones and a physical shield to keep those still here safe.
These customized patches do more than carry medication—they break down stigma. By transforming a medical emergency tool into a personalized, wearable piece of art, members make carrying Narcan accessible, visible, and grounded in community love.
The initiative is a natural, deeply human extension of Victory Programs’ daily harm reduction efforts. Across all our centers, teams work continuously to distribute critical prevention gear, safety kits, and resources directly to our neighbors. Workshop by workshop and kit by kit, our community proves that honoring the past and protecting the future go hand in hand.
