Victory Programs annual Gratitude Dinner dates back to 1975 when Victory House was a standalone program treating alcoholism. Then and now, Gratitude serves as a platform for clients, residents, and members to share “Stories of Gratitude,” personal accounts of overcoming substance use disorders, facing homelessness, and/or managing chronic illnesses like HIV/AIDS. What started as a small gathering around the dinner table of a single program has grown to represent the entire Victory Programs’ family, including current and past clients, staff, Board members, and select supporters.
Named to honor a former staff member, the Manny Jefferson Gratitude Awards are presented to individuals or organizations who have demonstrated excellence in volunteerism, a commitment to helping those in our care, and dedication to improving our programs and services.
This year’s honorees are:
Steve Jacobs, who has spent nearly ten years volunteering to serve Monday Night Dinner at the Boston Living Center nearly every Monday night. Additionally, Steve has recruited many of his friends and contacts to volunteer at the Boston Living Center and at three of Victory Programs’ events: Dinnerfest Auction, Summer Sports Tea Dance, and Celebration of Life where Steve serves as a table captain guiding other volunteer servers and raising funds for the Boston Living Center.
In 2014, Liberty Mutual Insurance began sending volunteers to help at ReVision Urban Farm and the Boston Living Center as part of their employees’ community of caring. Last year, the corporation sent large teams of volunteers to help with Victory Programs’ permaculture project at ReVision Urban Farm as part of their two week Serve with Liberty, an enterprise-wide day of community service during the first two weeks of May.
Please join us in congratulating this year’s winners!
