The history of Victory Programs annual Gratitude Dinner dates back to Thanksgiving 1975. A group of residents at our very first program, Victory House, decided that since they had nowhere else to go they would celebrate with a home-cooked meal and share stories of gratitude. Today, our annual Gratitude celebration hosts more than 300 guests from across our 19 health, housing and prevention programs and includes current and past clients, residents, staff, board members, friends and supporters. Stories of Gratitude are still the heart of this event, with current and former clients sharing their reflections on family, friends, shelter, community and health from the stage.
If you would like to help support our clients in honor of Gratitude, please consider purchasing common household items from our “Amazon Client Care List” to help the individual and families in our programs.
This year’s Gratitude Dinner was once again be at the beautiful Venezia Restaurant in Dorchester with breathtaking views of the Boston skyline and was held on Tuesday, March 20. In addition to the annual reflections of gratitude, the event featured the presentation of the Manny Jefferson Gratitude Awards for volunteerism.
BLC massage therapist, John Vines, has been volunteering his skills to combat the stigma associated with HIV and enrich the lives of members of the center faithfully since 1995. Members can schedule time for a free, therapeutic massage from John every other Monday by appointment.
Volunteers from the PALS (Playspace Activity Leaders) Program from Horizons for Homeless Children create spaces for structured playtime at our shelters where children engage in activities to help them learn, grow and create connections with caring adults who are invested in their success while their parents attend workshops, groups and other tasks necessary to building towards moving into stable, permanent housing.
Please join us in congratulating this year’s award winners!
