Sharing Our Experience with Mergers and Alliances Victory Programs has a long history of creating formal new strategic alliances and mergers. Twenty-five years ago Victory Programs made an important defining strategic decision to become a client-driven “umbrella” organization, with a goal of broadening our services and strengthening our infrastructure through key partnerships and mergers. As a result of this strategy, Victory Programs has continued to grow, improve and diversify our services even in lean and cautious times of funding reductions and downsizing. Our experience with mergers has taught us two guiding principles: First, mergers are most successful when there is an open, transparent process emphasizing relationships and trust between two entities; Second, mergers are more likely to be effective when there is a comprehensive “due diligence” analysis, an understanding of respective business practices and the organization’s missions are compatible. We are pleased to share with you this exciting case study on the history of successful strategic alliances at Victory Programs. This report was produced through a year-long effort by Victory Programs with the assistance of New Sector Alliance and support from The Boston Foundation. It provides an in-depth look into our process of determining strategic alliances and mergers as one method of increasing organizational stability, health and enhancing services and analyzes the impact our mergers have had on strengthening organizations and the communities we serve.
