Located in Jamaica Plain, Portis Family Home is a residential shelter for homeless and very low-income women and their children. The program can accommodate up to seven families who are addressing substance use disorders. Many residents of Portis Family Home have experienced domestic violence and are living with other chronic health conditions such as HIV/AIDS. The program provides intensive housing and vocational case management and recovery support services as the resident families transition to more independent and permanent housing settings.

Residents at Portis Family Home are given the tools to successfully address their substance use disorders, manage their health and HIV-treatment, find employment and reunite and operate as a family in a supportive and stable environment.

Portis Family Home joined the Victory Programs’ family in 2000 to provide the opportunity for families once torn apart by addiction and domestic violence to re-establish a healthy family life. Upon its opening it was the first family shelter dedicated to recovery.
